Do not waste water, use it wisely as the civic body has hiked the water tariff by 3.72 per cent. This will come into effect from June 16. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have proposed increasing the water tariff up to 8 per cent depending on the consumption. This comes at a time when water is severely wasted by keeping taps open.
The officials from BMC said that every household pays Rs 4.91 per litre of water consumed. Now, this would at least go up to Rs 5.09 per litre. This comes at a time when the BMC manages to calculate only 56 per cent of water bills through meters while the rest are done approximately. This also means that certain sections of people would not be paying the additional rate.
As per the revised rates, non-commercial units will pay Rs 20.40 per thousand litre from Rs 19.67 while commercial shops will pay Rs 38.25 per thousand litres which stands at Rs 36.88.
