The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is likely to get draft notification of development plan (DP) 2034 in a week, imformed a senior civic official working with state government's urban development department. The DP was approved by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis last month.

According to the official, a team of officials from state urban development department and BMC have been working on minor changes on DP 2034 following chief minister's order and will be sent to the BMC thereafter.

In the DP 2034, the FSI for the island city has been increased from 2 to 3. However, the for the suburbs it has been kept at 2.5. In addition, it also promises to create around 8 million jobs and 1 million affordable homes. Even the DP department of BMC has already received around 17 new proposals for redevelopment of old dilapidated buildings after the DP was approved by the chief minister.

Earlier, there was a ban on redevelopment in the city which was lifted by the Supreme Court in March for six months with a condition that debris would not be dumped in Deonar dumping ground. Also, developers had to find a plot for dumping debris and get an no objection certificate from the owner of the plot.

The DP also has a proposal to unlock around 2100 hectares of land parcels which has been untouched till now. These lands were so far under the buffer zones and were designated as no development zone.

However, this has received criticism from residents. Ignoring the criticisms, NMC claimed that these lands cannot be kept untouched forever. In addition, the DP will also make available around 300 acres of land of Aarey Colony for Metro car shed, zoo and rehabilitation of tribals.
