BMC opens 2nd disaster control centre in Parel

After the 2012 Mantralaya fire, the BMC planned to set up another control room as this will be useful in case there of any technical glitch or disaster.

The second disaster control centre of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which is a replica of its main disaster control at the headquarters was opened on Saturday in Parel.

After the 2012 Mantralaya fire, the BMC planned to set up another control room as this will be useful in case there of any technical glitch or disaster. The new centre is located at the ground floor of the at BMC's City Institute of Disaster Management in Parel.

IA Kundan, additional municipal commissioner who is incharge of disaster management at BMC said that the new one will have access to offices just like the main one. "The new control room will have direct access with wards, and other agencies like railways, MMRDA, and NAVY among others" said Kundan.

According to official from the Disaster Management of BMC, the new control room will be most helpful during monsoon season. "This will also ease pressure from the existing control room," said the official. At present, the BMC runs one-year diploma course teaching vulnerability analysis, disaster management plan, rescue operation as well as first aid and health care, among others at the City Institute of Disaster Management in Parel.
