The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed hawking pitches at Keluskar Road along Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's bungalow in 'Krishnakunja' at Dadar. The civic body has also proposed as many as 100 hawking pitches along the MNS office at Padmabai Thakkar Marg, Dadar.

It was hardly three-four months back the supporters of MNS had reportedly assaulted hawkers near railway stations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane alleging that operate illegally and create hurdles for common commuters to walk.

The decision has resulted into a political slugfest between Shivsena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. Santosh Dhuri, a party worker of MNS and former corporator of BMC has pointed fingers on the BMC and suggested that pitches should be instead in front of 'Matoshree' the Sena chief's residence. "BMC should also propose hawking pitches near senior Thackeray's residence. If they don't do, then we will not allow hawkers near Raj Thackerey's house,".

Yashwant Jadhav, Shiv Sena corporator and leader of House in BMC has alleged that the BMC administration has proposed the hawker pitches without involving the corporators.

A senior official from the Removal of Encroachment of BMC said that we have sought objections and suggestions on hawking pitches and if anyone has problem, they are ready to look into their problem.

THE PITCHES

  • The BMC has proposed a total 89,797 pitches and till January 31, 2018,citizens, individuals, Non Government Organisation (NGO) can give their suggestions and objections.
