The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will carry out repairs on the Eastern Freeway, which connects the eastern suburbs and South Mumbai, for four months starting from March 10. The BMC will carry out repairs on the freeway's cement-concrete panels.

A 5-km stretch of the freeway, the Anik Panjarpol link road (Chembur), has bad patches. Interest Litigation was filed.

The Bombay High Court, in a suo motu PIL, recently ordered the BMC to repair the road on immediate basis. The Bombay High Court order says, “We expect MMRDA/BMC shall stop passing-the-buck attitude in regard to the repair work of the Freeway."

The Mumbai Traffic Police on Wednesday granted a non-objection certificate to the civic body for the repair work.

Repairs will be carried out on the four lane road in a lane-wise manner, with one lane taking 40 days to be ready. The work is expected to end by August 20. However, monsoon is also likely to affect the progress in the repair work.

The Freeway was built in 2013 by MMRDA and is maintained by BMC.
