Fadnavis made the announcement in this regard after the issue was raised by Charkop MLA Yogesh Sagar.

The state government said on Tuesday that it has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to come up with a road map for reducing wastage of water and for equal distribution of water in city. The road map, said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, will be compiled in two months' time and will also include plans for 24x7 water supply, among other solutions to the problem of water scarcity.

Also, a three-member committee of water experts will be formed to look into solving water supply problems.

Fadnavis made the announcement in this regard after the issue was raised by Charkop MLA Yogesh Sagar. The city gets 3,750mld of water daily. Of this, the island city with a population of 31.5 lakh gets 1,130mld, the eastern suburbs with 40.5 lakh people get 1,120mld and the western suburbs with 58 lakh population get 1,500mld.

While raising the issue, Sagar said that certain parts of the city get less water supply while others get more. Also, officials have been lying about the wastage of water supply. Alleging differential treatment, Sagar stated that areas between Goregaon and Dahisar get less supply as compared to the island city. "While some people get as little as 40l water per day, in the case of 5-star hotels, 300l is provided," said Sagar.

He also demanded newer techniques, such as flow meter, telescopic meter and water meter, for each household to check its usage. "When it is as per usage for petrol and electricity, then why not for water?" Sagar said.
