Body of the British national who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of a Juhu hotel last week has been handed over to her family.

A senior police officer said, “The body was handed over to the deceased’s family members after recording their statements. They have not made any allegations against her husband Ajay or anyone else.”

Sunanda Valan, 37, jumped off the terrace of Ramee Guestline hotel on Thursday. The police had suspected foul play but the medical reports ruled out that out and confirmed that it was a case of suicide. Officials conducted inquiries with the hotel staff after the incident and had also questioned Ajay to know the reason behind Valan taking this extreme step.

Valan and her husband Ajay had come to India to visit a relative in Anand district of Gujarat. The police said, the duo came to Mumbai on Thursday and were supposed to fly back to London the next day. On Saturday, her father and sister came to Mumbai and after identifying the body claimed it to perform her last rites.
