The Bombay High Court on Monday dismissed a writ petition filed by Thane activist Vikrant Karnik, which was filed pertaining to a case where a 15-year-old girl alleged harassment by Thane Municipal commissioner's (TMC). Karnik had demanded in the petition that the cops record the statement of the minor, who worked as domestic help at the TMC commissioner's residence.
In January, Karnik had filed a petition in Bombay High Court asking the court to direct the Thane police to file a case under the POCSO Act against TMC commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal. A bench of Justice RM Savant and Sarang Kotwal directed ACP Padmaja Chavan of special branch, to record the girl's statement in accordance with the POCSO (protection of children from sexual offences) Act.
In December 2017, a video went viral where the girl alleged that Jaiswal had harassed her and was forced to offer massage to him and his friends. The matter came up for hearing on Monday and the bench dismissed the petition as the girl refuted the allegations that she had made against Jaiswal. A TMC official, who does not wish to be named said, 'Justice finally prevails, truth never stays hidden."
