Bundle of clothes on track derails train on CR in Mumbai

Initial reports indicate there is no injury to any passengers.

A bundle of clothes dropped by a trespasser on the Mumbai railway network derailed a suburban train on the harbour line near Wadala Road station on Tuesday evening at 4:23 pm. There were no injuries. Evening rush hour services are likely to be affected due to the derailment.

An official note from Central Railway said prima-facie cause of the derailment is a huge bundle of clothes dropped on the track apparently by a tresspasser. “Due to this, trains are likely to run 20-25 minutes behind schedule on harbour line. Harbour line Traffic at Wadala restored via Platform no.3 from 4.50 pm and two down harbour line trains have been diverted via main line as power lines was switched off as a precautionary measure,” it added.

Detailing the incident, the note added that one coach of V-40 (Vashi-CST) harbour line local derailed between Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar and Vadala Road stations near Signal no.11. One pair of wheels of motorman coach (first coach from CST end) derailed.
