Unidentified burglars allegedly broke into a cellphone shop and two paan shops in a row located barely 100m away from the police chowky in Kurla (West) early on Thursday.
They reportedly stole 78 China-made handsets valued at Rs1.25 lakh and mobile refilling vouchers worth Rs36,000 from the Alka Mobile Centre.
“The burglars were very smart. They did not steal Nokia, Samsung or any other branded handsets. They only stole China-made handsets as these do not bear the IMEI numbers. Hence it will be difficult for the police to trace them now,” said an officer from the Kurla police station.
They allegedly also stole imported cigarettes worth Rs8,000 from Narayan paan shop and tried to break into another paan shop.
“We have registered a case of burglary and attempt to commit burglary and a manhunt has been launched to nab them,” the officer added.
