Pune born acclaimed architect BV Doshi's latest book, a sort of autobiography - Paths Uncharted - was launched in a unique ceremony where a motley bunch of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (Cept) students did the unveiling honours, instead of any celebrity as is usually seen.
It being Doshi, the modest architect, Doshi had firmly requested that there should be no mention of his life at the event nor showering the author with words of praise for his work at this unique book launch function.
In fact, Doshi chose to remain with his guests during the launch that was graced by many dignitaries from the city and refused to get on to the stage. He thanked people from the audience, where he was seated. In addition, the faculty of architecture at Cept organised a panel discussion about the city.
During the discussion, educationist Niranjan Bhagat, artist Atul Dodiya, dancer Kumidini Lakhia, director of Cept Dr RN Vakil, Prof Muktirajsinhji Chauhan and Prof Neelkanth Chhaya discussed their experiences in the city.
While introducing the audience with the book, Prof Chhaya said that the book's title was fairly typical of BV Doshi as after having read the book, people would get to know how he took uncharted paths. Reviewing the book, Dodiya said that he feels the book is going to be a bestseller as it is so well-written.
Paths Uncharted, Doshi's fifth book, documents his experience from when he landed in the city six decades ago from America to his journey so far along with his sketches and designs during this time.
