If you live in and around Chembur, K9 Klub For Dog Lovers is offering you and your pet a day of fun and games on Sunday. The NGO is organising an all-day ‘carnival’ for pets which includes a workshop on animal rights, a fancy dress competition and an adoption camp.
The social responsibility initiative is taken by vet and CEO of K9 Klub For Dog Lovers Dr Deepa Katyal-Engineer.
“We have organised the event to spread social awareness about animal care. For the first time in five years of organising the carnival, we are having activities all day long. BMC’s public health representatives, lawyers and other animal lovers are expected to speak at the workshop which aims at educating people on animal rights and dealing with cruelty to animals,” she informs.
The fancy dress will see 40 pooches walk the ramp as tigers, the theme being ‘Tiger Conservation’. NGO Dhonk, which works for the conservation of tigers in Ranthambore will screen a documentary highlighting the issue. About 50 dogs and cats are expected to be up for adoption at the camp.
Katyal-Engineer also informed that mentally challenged children from NGO Bal Anand will visit the carnival and receive touch therapy. “The idea is to help them experience role that pets play in our lives, give them a different kind of joy,” says Katyal Engineer.
The event begins at 9am, at Amarnath Patil Udyan in Govandi (East).
