Heavy spells of rain and thundershowers are likely to lash the city when it will erupt on the streets to bid adieu to Lord Ganesha, on Tuesday. Ajay Kumar of meteorological department has also cautioned against gusty winds. “Low pressure has formed in the Arabian Sea. Due to this there is a possibility of heavy showers in Mumbai and the suburbs,” he said.
Around 5,300 Ganesh idols of the registered mandals and another 1,80,000 household idols are expected to be immersed in the seven sea-fronts of the city.
Roads to avoid : The traffic department has chalked out elaborate plans to facilitate smooth traffic movement during the immersion. 24 main roads, including the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Marg in South Mumbai and Tilak Bridge in Dadar, have been totally closed for vehicular traffic. 46 roads have been partially closed to allow one-way traffic movement. These include P D’Mello Road, closed from Kaklidge Chowk to Wadi Bunder and Walkeshwar Road which will be one-way from Band Stand to Teen Batti.
