City students fared well yet again in the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) Class X examination, with most schools getting 100 per cent results.
Like last year, Chennai region, which Maharashtra is a part of, retained its second position with 97.37 per cent pass percentage. This year, 5,537 students from over 1.88 lakh students in Chennai region scored 95 per cent and above, and a whopping 26,670 students scored 90 per cent and above. Two students — Akhilesh Narayan from DPS Nerul and Rashi Shah from The Somaiya School in Vidyavihar — scored a near perfect 99 per cent.
The overall passing percentage for CBSE Class X exams dropped by 4.25 per cent, eight years after the examination was made compulsory. Four students, who secured 499 out of 500, were declared All India toppers by the board on Tuesday. A total of 16,24,682 students from 17,567 schools appeared in the exams held across the country.
Among them are Prakhar Mittal of DPS Gurgaon, Rimzhim Agarwal of RP Public School (Bijnor), Nandini Garg of Scottish International School (Shamli) and Sreelakshmi G of Bhavan's Vidyalaya, (Kochi). The second position is shared by seven students scoring 498 marks and 14 students shared the third position with a score of 497.
While a total of whooping 1,31,493 students scored above 90 per cent, as many as 27,476 students crossed the 95 per cent mark. Out of 10 regions, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest pass percentage of 99.60 per cent, followed by Chennai and Ajmer.
