Mumbai Central Railway court’s metropolitan magistrate, Dr Khwaja Ahmed, on Thursday sentenced Suroj Teli, 30, to three months’ rigorous imprisonment.

The accused forcibly entered the ladies compartment of a Churchgate-bound train and robbed a 23-year-old college student’s cellphone.

The prosecution said the incident took place on October 22 midnight. Colaba resident Shruti Shah was returning home from Malad. Teli got on at Dadar. When the train neared Mumbai Central, Shah took out her cell phone. Teli snatched it and jumped down as the train reached the station. The railway police then caught him.
