Gangster Chhota Rajan's brother Deepak Nikalje, a Republican Party of India activist, was arrested in a case of rioting registered against him at the Nehru Nagar Police station in connection with the protests last week, police said on Tuesday.

MUMBAI: Gangster Chhota Rajan's brother Deepak Nikalje, a Republican Party of India activist, was arrested in a case of rioting registered against him at the Nehru Nagar Police station in connection with the protests last week, police said on Tuesday.
 
Nikalje had secured anticipatory bail in a similar offence registered against him at the Chembur police station on Monday, and was arrested by the Nehru Nagar police on Monday night from Chembur, when he went there to complete some formalities regarding the court's order.
 
He has been arrested for indulging in causing damage to public property, unlawful assembly and rioting during last week's violent protests against the desecration of Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue.
 
Nikalje, who had contested on a RPI ticket from Chembur constituency in the 2004 assembly elections, was produced before a local court here which remanded him to police custody till December 7.
 
Nikalje, the producer of the hit movie Vaastav based on Chhota Rajan's life, has been booked under various sections of the IPC, Bombay Police Act and Damage to Public Property Act.
