Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan flags off trial run of Mumbai's metro rail

Once the trial runs are successful, it will be followed by mandatory safety certifications from various agencies.

On Wednesday morning at Versova metro station Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan flagged off trial run for Mumbai's first metro rail.

As planned, the trial run was held between Versova and Azad Nagar stations, that is a stretch of around 3 km.



With the trial run, works for the metro has entered the final stages. Once the trial runs are successful, it will be followed by mandatory safety certifications from various agencies.



The 11-km long metro rail that covers Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar will be opened in two phases.

"First phase (between Versova - Airport Road)  will be opened for public by September," said Chavan. The entire corridor will be ready for public use only by December 2013.
