The criminal investigation department‘s inquiry into the alleged framing of builder Rajendra Chaturvedi has reportedly accused 13 police officers, including deputy inspector-general Bipin Bihari, IPS, in the case.
Bihari was additional commissioner of police (western region) when Juhu police registered a fabricated case against Chaturvedi in February last year.
The builder was accused of hatching a conspiracy to eliminate business rival Rashmikant Shah. The matter was raised in the state assembly, and Patil handed over the case to the Pune-based state CID.
After collecting relevant papers from Juhu police station, it recorded statements of the officers concerned. Some of those, having been recorded in the presence of a magistrate, would be admissible as evidence in court.
Both director-general of police PS Pasricha and state CID chief SPS Yadav refused to comment on the findings. “Please contact the home minister’s office,” said Pasricha. The report was said to have been delivered to Patil’s office by a superintendent of police.
Apart from Bihari, others indicted included senior inspector PD Shinde and assistant police inspector Jagdish Sail. The source said that the CID had sought permission from the home ministry to prosecute the officers.
