The city has got its first specialised clinic to treat Hepatitis and HIV co-infection. The clinic at the Jaslok Hospital will counsel, offer treatment and diagnostics. "There is a similarity in the way both HIV and Hepatitis virus spreads. Also, close to 15 per cent of Hepatitis B and 10 per cent of Hepatitis C patients are likely to have HIV as a co-infection," said Dr Jayshri Shah who is a consultant Hepatologist. The clinic was launched on World Hepatitis Day on Friday.
"The clinic will look to provide support to those who are high-risk groups or people who want to find out their status. We will also have genotype resistant testing to see if HIV patients are resistant to certain drugs," said Dr Om Srivastava, director of infectious diseases who will be heading the clinic.
