A ramp road will be constructed from the Lilavati Hospital junction to the Western Express Highway thereby easing one of the busiest junctions in Bandra west. This comes after the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) granted permission to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the same. The road will directly connect the highway to Lilavati Hospital junction via Rangsharda Hotel.
The civic body had planned around 200-metre-long road nearly two years ago. But, it was struck due to delay in permission from MCZMA.
Sharad Ughade, assistant commissioner of H West has confirmed that the project has received permission from MCZMA. The proposal will now be sent to the Environment Impact Assessment Committee for approval.
The ramp will have two ways. It will also provide one more option to enter and exit Bandra. At present, there are two entry and exit points to Bandra — the SV Road via Jama Masjid and the KC Road in front of Lilavati Hospital.
According to a BMC official, the project, which will cost around Rs 4 crore, will pave way for a third alternative road to Bandra and towards Andheri. "The Lilavati Hospital junctions sees huge traffic during peak hours. We can expect for the new alternate road to exit and enter the area and help in easing traffic," said another civic official.
Residents said that after the construction of the sealink there has been an increase in traffic on the narrow lanes. Earlier, the land where the ramp will be constructed was under the MSRDC. The civic body took possession of the land. However, an environment clearance was also required. Even the new road will help motorists traveling towards Mount Mary. "There was also some encroachment which was removed," the official said.
