Communist leader Govind Pansare, who was shot at in Kolhapur four days ago, passed away at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai, on Friday night.
Pansare was flown to Mumbai from Kolhapur on Friday noon, in an air ambulance with two doctors from Nanavati hospital for further treatment.
“Two hours after he was brought to Mumbai he was critical but stable but later bleeding started. Pansare died due to bleeding in lungs. Dr Udwadia himself checked twice and examined him but later he succumbed to injury,” Dr TP Lahane confirmed to dna.
Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital was the only person who brought Pansare from Mumbai’s domestic airport to Breach Candy hospital on Friday around 6.30 pm after Pansare came from air ambulance.
Barely a year-and-half after the yet to be cracked murder of anti-superstition crusader Dr Narendra Dabholkar, another stalwart from the progressive movement Pansare, was shot in Kolhapur.
82- year old Pansare and his wife Uma were shot by unidentified persons near their house in Kolhapur on Monday (February 16) when they were returning from their morning walk.
Pansare, a renowned lawyer and writer, was leading a campaign against the collection of toll in Maharashtra. Fifteen days before he was shot dead, he was threatened and abused for speaking against the glorification of Nathuram Godse at a gathering.
