The station, christened "Jago Mumbai", will generate awareness for demonstration centres for composting and vermiculture, rainwater harvesting and solar power.

A Community Radio Station (CSR) will start functioning at the Union Park Residents' Association, Khar-Bandra, Mumbai.

The ministry of information and broadcasting has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a CRS.

The station is expected to be operational within three months as per the agreement.

With this, the number of such stations will increase to 57 in the country.

The station, christened "Jago Mumbai", will generate awareness for demonstration centres for composting and vermiculture, rainwater harvesting and solar power.

The vision is to empower the CRS in a manner that it provides awareness and motivation to the residents to understand and carry out their civic responsibilities with respect to cleanliness, health and sanitation, environment, waste management and conservation of water and electricity.

The ministry encourages setting up such a CRS as it promises to provide an opportunity to local communities to express themselves, share their views and particularly empower women, youth and marginalised groups to take part in local self-governance and overall socio-economic and cultural development in the area.
