A senior citizen was stolen off her cash and jewellery valued at Rs44,000 by a con man who made the victim believe that a riot has broken out on the road ahead.

A senior citizen was stolen off her cash and jewellery valued at Rs44,000 by a con man who made the victim believe that a riot has broken out on the road ahead.

Pratibha Chandrakant Yadav (68) of Tingrenagar lodged a complaint against an unidentified man aged between 30-35 years, wheatish colour and wearing green T-shirt and black trousers at the Vishrantwadi police station. No arrest has been made yet.

According to the police, the incident took place on Navrang Plaza Road at around 12.30 pm on Wednesday.

Yadav was returning home after withdrawing the money from her pension account from Bank of Maharashtra, when the suspect told her that a riot has taken place on the road ahead.

He requested her to keep her jewellery and cash in a carry bag as a preventive measure. However, when the victim believed to the suspect’s words, he fled with the bag.
