Officials from colleges say this will likely increase cut-off marks for merit list

Many students who appeared for the SSC board exam this year will be benefitted with concession marks from art and culture as well as sports. City colleges claim that this will help SSC students to be in the race with other board students for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admission. The cut-off marks in the merit list, however, is likely to go up by few percentage as number of students scoring 90% and above are more than previous years, say officials from city colleges.

This year 125 students across the state scored cent per cent marks in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Board examination. Of them, four are from Mumbai. Since a large number of students were getting cent per cent marks after getting marks for participating in art, culture and sports, the state government had issued a government resolution last year and reduced the marks from 25 to 15 this year. A total of 13,329 students scored 90 per cent and above this year.

Another official from Mithibai College, Vile Parle, said, "If the number of students across boards scoring 90 per cent and above increases, then the cut-off marks for the merit list will definitely go up."

Since the Class 10 examination results of all the boards have been declared, the deputy director of school education office will soon declare the dates to start online admission process for FYJC in all state board junior colleges.
