Congress worker assaults BMC engineer

The worker is reportedly close to Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam. The police have registered a complaint against him for assaulting a government worker.

A junior engineer of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (P north ward) was allegedly assaulted by a Congress worker while he was supervising the demolition of illegal structure in Azmi Nagar, Malwani area.

The worker is reportedly close to Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam. Malwani police have registered a complaint against Sarvesh Jaiswal, for assaulting a government servant.

The police says, the complainant, Deepak Sharma, a junior engineer of P north ward, based on the complaint by local people, had gone along with other BMC staff for demolition of an illegal structure in Rathodi area at Malwani. He was supervising the demolition and while the demolition was on, Jaiswal, came along with a few of his party workers and told Sharma to stop bulldozing the structure.

“Jaiswal began an argument with Sharma and later assaulted him. Following on Sharma’s approach in police station, we have registered a complaint against Jaiswal and have charged him under Indian Penal Code 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation),” said a senior police official of Malwani police station on condition of anonymity.

When contacted Sanjay Nirupam said, “I heard about the incident but I am in Delhi. Jaiswal is not my personal assistant. I know he is a Congress worker.  If the BMC officer has been assaulted, then police will file a complaint against him.”
