As a part of police investigations to trace Jean Baptiste Talleu, 26, the French adventure-cyclist who is believed to have gone missing in December last year, the Mumbai police now plan to contact friends and acquaintances he had in the city.
The police got access to the addresses after Talleu’s mother, who is based in France, cracked his e-mail account password and jotted down the contact details of his friends.
“We will call in people he knew in Mumbai and try to get details about him from them. Further investigations are on,” said Sanjay Mohite, deputy commissioner of police (Enforcement).
According to the police, Talleu arrived in Mumbai as part of his world bicycling tour in the first week of December. The software engineer last spoke to his mother on December 2 from Dubai and planned to meet his sister in China after the tour, said the police.
Officials from the French embassy in New Delhi are in constant touch with the Mumbai police and are aiding them in their search. A country-wide wireless message has been sent with details about Talleu’s physique and baggage that he was carrying. According to the police, Talleu’s relatives said he was likely to head toward Puducherry in Tamil Nadu or Goa. His visa expired on March 7, added the police.
Talleu’s mother told the police that the last time he accessed his e-mail was on December 5. His bank records show that the last transaction was done on the same day through which he withdrew 200 Euros using his credit card from a branch in Andheri (E).
Talleu’s family had registered a missing complaint with the Sahar police in mid-December after they lost touch with him.
The Frenchman began his world tour in July 2007 from south of France, cycling through Italy, Croatia, Albania, Greece, Turkey and Iran before reaching Dubai in December.
