Even after marrying legally, an engineer couple from Pune is fighting a legal battle for their right to live together following opposition to their alliance by the girl's parents.

The couple appeared before the District and Session's court here yesterday.

According to the details of the case, the girl, a resident of Laxminagar here, fell in love with Pune boy Swapnil Arvind Pandit, when they were studying together at an engineering college in this city in Vidarbha.

They got jobs as engineers at Pune and later tied the knot as well as registered the marriage on March 26, 2009 at Pune. As soon as the parents of the girl came to know about this, they went to Pune and brought her back to Amravati.

As she did not return, Pandit filed a habeas corpus petition in Bombay High Court. The girl appeared before a bench of justices Ranjana Desai and R G Ketkar where she refused to stay with Pandit. The HC rejected his plea.

The girl returned to Amravati, where she submitted an application in the local court for nullifying the marriage, while Pandit took his case to the Pune court. Meanwhile, the girl's father filed a kidnapping case against the boy, who managed to get interim bail.

However, the girl yesterday appeared before the court, where she agreed to stay with Pandit, saying she had married him out of her own will.
