Lakhs of commuters had a harrowing time on Thursday morning after two wheel trolleys of the locomotive of 11301 CST Mumbai-Bengaluru Udyan Express derailed at a cross over point after leaving platform number 17 at 8.15am.

The derailment hit the fast lines at CST which meant that Down and Up fast line suburban services were diverted on Dn and Up slow lines respectively.

By the time services on Dn fast line resumed from around 9am and on Up fast line from 10.15am, 70 services were cancelled. Services were running due to bunching, behind schedule by 20-30 minutes on main line.

The 11301 CST-Bengaluru Udyan Express had to be 'backed' to platform number 17, with its passenger being given refreshments in order to compensate for their time. The train finally left at 3.32pm.

Several long distance trains like the CST Mumbai- Nagercoil Express, CST Mumbai-Chennai Central Express and CST Mumbai-Nagpur Sewagram Express departed from Dadar instead of CST. Trains like the CST-Lucknow Pushpak Express, CST-Kolhapur Koyna Express, CST Mumbai-Howrah Duranto Express among others were rescheduled and left later than their usual time.
