The Cuffe Parade police have detained three men who were present in the kitchen when a 30-year-old maid, Shamita Tambe, allegedly slipped and fell to her death from a plush building at Maker Tower in the wee hours of Saturday. The body was found by the building's watchman nearly seven hours after she fell.
According to the police, a birthday party had been organised by one Ramesh Bhojwani on Friday night in flat 192. Tambe and another skivvy Aruna Ingole had been called for help. Tambe, who was allegedly sitting on the kitchen windowsill, slipped and fell on the porch. The three present with her in the kitchen when she fell didn't inform the police about it.
"The three people are being questioned. All three are house helps and had earlier worked in the same house. They too had been called for helping around in the house for the party," said Shashikant More, assistant commissioner of police (Colaba division). "The three had consumed alcohol when the incident happened. We are trying to ascertain how Tambe slipped and why the incident was not reported to the police immediately."
