DAV Public School rolls back fee after parents’ protest
It has reduced its fee by Rs200 — from Rs1,100 to Rs900. It had earlier hiked the fee by Rs500.
After protests by parents of DAV Public School in Nerul over fee hike, the school authorities have decided to reduce the hiked fee by a substantial amount. The school had increased the fee by over 90% this academic year.
Recently, the school issued a circular about the rollback. It is one of the few schools that have revised their fee to help parents.
At the beginning of the new academic year, the school hiked its fee by Rs500 - to Rs 1,100. Several parents protested against the school.
Parents who had more than one child studying in the school complained that their budget for school fees had almost doubled. Last month, parents also protested against an admission deposit of Rs10,000 that the school charges.
A parent said, “ Recently, the school issued a circular informing about the new fee structure. They have reduced it by Rs200. The current tuition and term fee is Rs900. This is a relief to parents.”
A school official said, “A local politician intervened in the matter. Parents and the school have agreed on the fee. The school had not increased the fee for several years. The schools in neighbouring areas charge anything between Rs1,000 and Rs2,500. A hike was necessary.”
Recently, Shree Mumba Devi Vidyamandir also rolled back its hike after parents’ protests. St Jude School in Khar also revised its fee.
