State minister for higher and technical education, Rajesh Tope, announced on Sunday that he would request the Centre to relax the recruitment rules for filling up vacancies in the various departments of Deccan College. Tope was speaking at the inauguration of the college’s convocation hall in the city.
“The institute’s director, GB Deglurkar, told me that it is suffering from a severe staff crunch as many posts are lying vacant. Due to the strict recruitment rules and unavailability of candidates belonging to the backward category, the college is facing difficulty in filling up these posts. Thus, I would personally talk to the Centre to relax the rules so that the vacancies can be filled up soon,” he said.
He also announced special financial aid for the institute to upgrade its laboratories.
Pune municipal commissioner, Mahesh Pathak, said that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) would be issuing a commercial transfer of development rights (TDR) in lieu of the land the civic body had acquired for road widening in that area.
“We will also build a special multi-purpose hall for the college soon,” he said.
Pathak, while lauding the work of the premiere institute, also sought its cooperation in the preservation of the 250-odd heritage sites in the city.
