The city is likely to witness heavy rains on Monday as well as Tuesday.

Mumbaikars woke up to a wet Sunday as the day saw intermittent rainfall as well as the seaons's highest high tide of 4.97 metre erupting in the Arabian Sea off Mumbai coast in the noon. The city is likely to witness heavy rains on Monday as well as Tuesday.

As per IMD officials, the rains were not as heavy as predicted as Santacruz recorded 56.2mm while Colaba recorded 10mm of rains on Sunday. "One of the main reasons for reduced impact of rain was the strong winds, also as predicted the rains were concentrated over Northern Mumbai," said the IMD official adding that prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in the districts of Palghar, Thane, and Raigad along with heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai has been placed for both July 16 and 17.

Being Sunday the traffic on the roads were thin thus there were no major traffic snarls reported, however motorists who ventured out in the rain were left grappling with several potholes across the city. While surburban services on both Western Railway and Central Railway were running with delays officials said that it was due to the megablocks.

From 8.30am to 5.30pm Mulund recorded 72.8mm while areas like Powai (58.2mm), Borivali east (50.8mm) and other parts of suburbs too saw some heavy showers. As per BMC officials the fact that the high tide occured at 1.49 pm and there was not much of heavy rains ensured there was no flooding and water logging as water at several places receded.

As per Skymet a private weather forecasting agency the cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Coastal Gujarat and adjoining regions at lower troposphere. Simultaneously, an off shore trough is running along Maharashtra Coast to Kerala Coast and in wake of these systems heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue along Maharashtra coast including Mumbai.
