Industrialist Ness Wadia got embroiled in yet another controversy on Wednesday, after his driver lodged a non-cognisable complaint against him at the MRA Marg police station, alleging that the Bombay Dyeing scion kicked and abused him.
According to the police, Dhirendra Mishra (40) has been working as a full-time driver for Wadia for over two years. Reportedly, Wadia often told Mishra to drive fast and jump traffic signals. On Wednesday afternoon, when Mishra was driving Wadia towards south Mumbai, the latter allegedly kicked, verbally abused and insulted Mishra in the moving car.
When asked about the reason behind the outburst, Mishra told police that as usual, Wadia instructed him to drive as fast as possible and jump all the signals, as he was getting late. Wadia told Mishra to speed up twice during the ride, after which he lost his calm. When the car reached near the end of the JJ flyover towards DN Road, he started kicking and abusing Mishra.
An offended Mishra then approached the MRA Marg police and filed a complaint. "We have filed the complaint against Wadia and have also charged him under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for voluntarily causing hurt to a person, intentional insult with a motive to provoke breach of peace and criminal intimidation. Since we only have the victim's statement without evidence, we have not registered an FIR. But soon we will ascertain the reason for such an act. Our investigation is in progress," said deputy commissioner of police (Zone-I), Manoj Kumar Sharma.
