Maharashtra transport department will start delivering driving licences at the applicant's home from next month, with an intention to curb related malpractices.
"The proposal has been approved and people would get the driving licences on their residential addresses from next month," principal secretary of transport department CS Sangitrao said here.
The government would also be amending the state Motor Vehicle Act to make the service mandatory for all the regional transport offices, Sangitrao said.
According to an official in the transport department, there would be a seperate window across all the transport offices where people can pay and get the licence delivered at their doorstep.
The service charges would be between Rs20 to 30.
The proposal was mooted by the department with an intension to curb malpractices and the role of middlemen involved in making licences, the official said.
"Another reason for the service is to establish a separate system to verify the applicant's address proof, as there is no mechanism to check the correct address," the official said.
The department is confident that the service would also end the practises of making licences on fake addresses, the official added.
