Israeli drug-lord Yaniv Benaim would be brought to the country on Friday from Peru, where he had gone into hiding after jumping bail.
Seven policemen from Goa were also suspended in the case after their role in the drug nexus was brought to light by Yaniv’s former girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse last year. Goa home minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy had also come under the scanner as it was alleged that he was an important intermediary in the syndicate.
However, Yaniv was released on bail allegedly due to the tardy investigation by Goa crime branch. He later jumped bail in August last year. The case was then transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation on the instructions of the court.
The investigating agency will now be probing as to how did Yaniv manage to escape from India and who were the people who helped him — apart from investigating his entire syndicate.
The officials said that Yaniv operated in Goa by greasing the palms of policemen and officials of other agencies.
