Sleuths from the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai police are intrigued by the “dual personality” by two youngsters, suspected peddlers who were arrested from the rave party bust from a Juhu pub in October.
The first time Rahul Karmarkar, 24, was arrested with a small quantity of drugs, a week before he was arrested in the rave party raid in a Juhu pub in October, he pleaded innocent, swore never to touch drugs again. The police, giving him the benefit of doubt, believed him.
But Karmarkar’s interrogation sessions in the last few weeks have flummoxed ANC officials. “He seems to have a dual personality. At times he repents his behaviour, promising to give up his habits. And suddenly, he is unapologetic,” said a senior ANC police official, who has been interrogating him.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that he used to stay in Kenya before relocating to Mumbai a year ago, after his father passed away. He took to drugs and slowly joined the peddling fraternity to support his lavish lifestyle. Police said he moved out of the house earlier this year as his mother disapproved his wayward behaviour.
Same is the case with Anuradha Sanyal, 20, daughter of a high-level officer in the Indian Army. A student of a leading college in Pune, she came to Mumbai a couple of months ago. A regular pub-hopper, she had a flamboyant lifestyle and got sucked into the drug peddling community.
“Both of them began as drug consumers. Slowly, to make a quick buck, they started drug peddling,” said the officer.
Police said that the two surfed social networking sites to find out about rave parties in the city. “Accordingly, they would get in touch with the organizers and supply drugs to the rave revelers,” said a police official.
