Close to 35 participants learned to make eco-friendly Ganesh idols under the expert guidance of Ahmednagar-based sculptor, Pramod Kamble, the creator of the ‘Anna’ Ganesh idol.
The workshop was organised by the Vimannagar-based environmental NGO, Bluewiss, on Saturday.
Kamble taught the participants to make Ganesh idols using simple materials like clay, alta, kumkum and turmeric for colours. He recently unveiled the ‘Anna’ Ganesh idol, which has an image of Anna Hazare in white kurta, dhoti and topi with Lord Ganesh’s trunk.
An official from Bluewiss told DNA, “In the past decade, a lot of awareness programmes have made it clear that idol immersions are the main reasons for choking our rivers. If it is not plaster-of-paris, then it is the toxic colours that are spelling doom for our water systems and associated
bio-diversity.”
