Alleging financial irregularities, Patit Pavan Sanghatana (PPS) activists on Friday demanded filing criminal cases against director of Welingkar Institute Dr Uday Salunkhe.

The organisation's Mumbai unit staged demonstrations outside the institute and demanded immediate arrest of Salunkhe. PPS chief general secretary Nitin Sontakke, Mumbai unit president Raju Tikone and PPS coordinator Pradip Gaikwad led the demonstrations.

The demonstrators shouted slogans, condemning the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali for alleged irregularities, and blamed Salunkhe for the same. Sontakke said the PPS has launched an agitation against the alleged irregularities in the Mandali and that whatever Zee Media has shown has been shocking.

Gaikwad said the PPS and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad have been working in the field of education for a long time and as the education minister, Vinod Tawde, was an ABVP worker himself, he should immediately stop the grants for the Mandali by conducting an inquiry into the alleged irregularities.

He added that despite there being no annual general meeting the government should take action against the Mandali, a demand that was echoed by Tikone, who said an immediate inquiry into the matter is a must.
