I fully support DNA’s initiative that highlights some of the biggest issues that women have been facing over the years and I really feel very strongly about each one of them. The three are even interlinked to a large extent.
The percentage of women dying of cancer each year is rather high and it’s unfortunate, as timely checks and early diagnosis can help in stemming it in the early stages itself and prevent it from becoming fatal. But this awareness can come only through education. So, I think it’s important that women no matter what the age or community promote this cause.
Ensure that all women, girls, around you are getting educated.
This education also makes you aware of your rights. Right now there’s over legislation and under administration especially when it comes to implementation of laws against those who commit crimes against women. Young lives like Reuben Fernandes and Keenan Santos are lost and still the harsh reality is that suchp incidents are brushed aside.
Women face gender based harassment in all walks. You feel insecure whether you are traveling in crowded places or not. The culprits won’t stop unless they know that the outcome will result in them being severely punished.
The change won’t be overnight, but education and awareness will go a long way in arming the woman to speak up for her basic rights, to her health, education and a right to live a dignified life without fear.
