A group of environmental NGOs on Tuesday decided  to petition the government to take quick action against complaints and FIRs filed by activists.

“There have been eight attacks on RTI activists in the past six months with four fatal attacks occurring in Maharashtra. Yet, no action is taken to protect these people. We will be sending a letter to the environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh and CM Ashok Chavan, along with a dossier on the details of the complaints filed by environmentalists with the police” said Sumaira Abdulali, activist, Awaaz Foundation.

The group is also planning to approach the environment department with requests to submit suggestions for the whistle blowers Act, which the Bombay HC had asked the state to come up with.
