The Yerawada branch of the Akhil Bharatiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad (ABPSSP) was inaugurated in Vimannagar on Sunday.

More than 75 ex-servicemen from Yerawada area attended the event, which was presided over by Lt Gen (retd) VM Patil. Brig (retd) Hemant Mahajan, who was chief guest, delivered a lecture on India’s internal security.

The organisation, founded in 1995, is committed to serving the nation through selfless service even after retirement.

Guided by the ideals imparted during their service, ex-servicemen of the three armed forces — the Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force — can continue to serve the nation, society, communities and other ex-servicemen through the organisation even after retirement.

The ABPSSP helps get scholarships, boarding and lodging for deserving children of armed forces personnel. Apart from helping their own, it is also involved in social work. It runs a school in Pimpri for the children of soldiers and officers of the seven sisters, the seven north-eastern states of India.

These children are provided free boarding, lodging and food, besides fee scholarship.
