Faizal, Muzzamil remanded to custody till Aug 9

A local court remanded suspected LeT head of Western India - Faizal Sheikh and his brother Muzzamil - to police custody till August 9.

MUMBAI: A local court on Friday remanded suspected LeT head of Western India - Faizal Sheikh and his brother Muzzamil - to police custody till August 9, for their alleged role in the July 11 serial train blasts' conspiracy. 

Both the accused, who were initially detained by crime branch, were sent to the custody of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which is probing the July 11 seven serial blasts here that claimed 200 lives and left over 700 others injured.

While moving a remand application, ATS officials said Faizal  was the head of LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) operative for Western region of the country and was allegedly involved in raising fund for the  terrorist outfit and sending youths to Pakistan for weapons' and  bomb-manufacturing training.

The officials prayed for custodial interrogation of both the accused for further probe.  Metropolitan Magistrate A M Garde then remanded them to police custody till August 9.

Police suspect that the duo's electronic gadgets shop at Mira Road in the neighbouring Thane district was just a front to show  white collar income, while Faizal allegedly used the 'hawala' mode  to acquire funds from Pakistan and Middle-East, for module operandi in Western regions.

It had also come into light that Muzzamil had allegedly procured a bogus software engineer certificate from Aurangabad, which police is investigating.  ATS has so far arrested eight suspected LeT operatives in connection with the serial blasts.
