The online admission process for junior college does not seem be running smooth. Following complaints of some students being allotted seats under the handicap category, several general category students on Thursday complained of allocation of seats in reserved category.
City colleges have been receiving complaints from students who are hassled after not being able to produce documents for their reserved status, which, in fact, is non-existent.
Out of 120 admissions that they took in the past two days, a college in Goregaon received at least 30 such students who have been allotted seats under the reserved category. “These students have shown us the copy of their forms where they have not opted for any reservation. And yet they have been given seats under the reserved category. While normal students have been allotted seats under the handicap category, some students have even got seats under the e-servicemen quota and defence quota when they are not even entitled to,” said an official from the college.
“Ideally, such admissions stand cancelled. However, when we called the education department, they asked us to give the students provisional admissions to ensure that they remain in the process and are not denied admission. This seems to be a technical error on the department’s part.”
Manisha Tambe (name changed), a student from Goregaon, said, “I was shocked to get a seat in the defence category. When I was allotted a seat, I was happy. But when the official asked me to produce documents, I was clueless. He, however, asked me to come a day later and allowed me to take admission.”
An official from the deputy director’s office said: “We have asked everybody to give admissions. There are not many cases like that. The colleges which have been asked to give admissions have seats vacant under those categories; so, we allowed them to admit students. If the students have any problems, they should approach the guidance centres. Everybody will get admission.”
