Police top brass meet officers from the two teams
Seven officers from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and two from Scotland Yard of the United Kingdom arrived in the city on Sunday night.
Joint commissioner of police and chief of the Mumbai crime branch Rakesh Maria said a meeting was held at the DGP’s office on Monday afternoon. “There was a coordination meeting between top Maharashtra police officers and the two teams,” he said. It was attended by the DGP, commissioner (Intelligence), additional director general (law and order), chiefs of the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and crime branch. The meeting was held to discuss the issue of the terror strikes and to exchange information.
Both the teams were in the city to investigate the attacks. There are reports that an Australian investigation team too is in Mumbai. But the news could not be confirmed. At present, the official death toll in the attacks is 173 and that of the injured 288.
After the meeting, the FBI team visited the Taj and Oberoi hotels, Leopold, and CST.
The team is expected to be in the city for a few days and study various issues regarding the attacks. The Scotland Yard team too assessed the situation and gathered
information. According to a senior police officer, the team was trying to find out if there was any information or evidence that could link the attacks to the London bombings.
The FBI team is in the process of examining evidence and remnants of explosives gathered from the targeted places and the methodology used by the militants. The FBI would investigate the case from their side as six Americans were killed in the attacks.
