The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, has confiscated a truckload full of adulterated gutka of a reputed brand. According to FDA officials, this is one of the biggest seizures of adulterated gutka in the recent past.
“Food inspector LG Rathod and assistant commissioner RC Runwal had specific information about a consignment of Goa-1000 gutka worth Rs36,15,840 being brought to the city. On September 5, officers from the FDA and the octroi department of the municipal corporation raided the office of Keshav Marketing Company at Aarey Road in Goregaon (w) and confiscated the adulterated gutka,” joint commissioner Suhas Chaudhari told DNA. He also added that the FDA has specific information about such gutka being brought to the city and kept in Powai.
A truckload full of adulterated gutka, packed in 179 gunnysacks. According to the FDA officials, this gutka was brought in the city without paying any octroi as well. “We have information that the gutka confiscated contains quantity of a banned substance called magnesium carbonate. We have already sent the samples of the gutka to our food laboratory. Once it is established that the gutka contains the banned substance, we will initiate further action,” concluded Chaudhari.
