Five killed in separate mishaps on the Pune-Mumbai highway

The police said an Indica car travelling from Mumbai towards Pune rammed into a road divider at 6.15 am, killing Dapodi resident Charles Malik Das (35) on the spot.

Five persons were killed in two separate accidents in the last 24 hours on the Pune-Mumbai National Highway.

The police said an Indica car travelling from Mumbai towards Pune rammed into a road divider at 6.15 am, killing Dapodi resident Charles Malik Das (35) on the spot. The other occupant of the car, Nitish Agarwal (32), a resident of Warje Malwadi, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

A third passenger, Sameer Sheikh, has been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car, Dada Vitthal Lokhande, escaped unhurt.

In the second incident that took place on the same spot at 5 am on Wednesday, three persons were killed on the spot when a jeep collided with a stationary truck.

Seven others, including two children, were seriously injured in the mishap. Jeep driver Baban Manaji Surve (26), Rajesh Shelar (25) and Rohan Gajanan Pawar (24) died on the spot, the police said. All passengers of the jeep were residents of Girgaum

in Mumbai. The injured have been admitted to Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi.
