The decision was taken in the recent academic council meeting when some deans of the departments presented the need for it, following several overseas applications.

In the academic council meeting of the Mumbai University that was conducted on Tuesday, this decision was taken when departments like Languages and Political Science raised the issue.

The test will be conducted individually by the respective departments. There are around 60 departments affiliated with Mumbai University which have research centres. Almost all subject departments have research centres from where guides and other facilities are provided for research activities for PhDs.

Each such department will be responsible for their individual online PET for applicants of foreign origin. Hence, students will only be required to remain in contact with their respective department where they wish to pursue PhD.

An academic council member stated, “During the council meeting, decision of initiating online PET has been taken to make it convenient for students of foreign origin to apply for research activities here. This will encourage their participation in research activities done at Mumbai University.”
