Ever since its inauguration in January 2010, the Central Park at Kharghar, has become a hub of recreational activities not only for those staying in Kharghar, but also for people from other parts of the city.

However, though the park  is a hotspot for men and women, children and senior citizens, it has also become a hub of anti-social activities. In order to keep these mischief mongers in check, Cidco has decided to install close circuit televisions (CCTVs) at the park.

“We have installed four CCTVs at the Central Park, which will be used to monitor the movement of people and keep a tab on any mischievous activity going on in facility. This move aim at ensuring maximum security for those who visit the park,” a senior Cidco official said. He added that the cameras have been operational since a week.

The Cidco had earlier decided to keep the park open during evenings only, but has been keeping it open during morning hours too, thanks to repeated requests from people. “As the park is open in morning as well as evening, the number of people visiting the facility has increased and it is our responsibility to ensure complete security for them till they are in the park,” the official said.

Central Park is an effort by the Cidco to make Navi Mumbai a prominent destination on the international map, while responding to the active and passive recreational needs of the populace. The facility has been developed as a modern park blending the concept of the famous Hyde Park in London and Central Park of New York. It is spread over an area of around 80 hectares in sectors 23, 24 and 25 of Kharghar.
