Four killed as tourist boat capsizes off Murud coast

The four along with eight other tourists and a sailer had went into the sea in a boat this morning to see dolphins in Murud village in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.

A dolphin-sighting trip turned out to be a tragedy when a boat with 12 tourists capsized, killing four people including three senior citizens from Mumbai, in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Murud village in Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra, police said.
       
Jyoti Kulkarni (65) Shaila Deshmukh(65) and Arun Datar(65) of Mumbai and Anuradha Phadnis(40) from Pune died as 'Ramasha' boat hired by them overturned while returning to shore at Murud, they added.
       
The four along with eight other tourists and a sailer went into the sea in a boat this morning to see dolphins. For over two hours, they sailed eagerly looking for the big fish, police said.
       
After seeing the dolphins, they were returning to the shore when all of a sudden the boat lost its control due to huge waves, they said.
       
Subsequently, the boat capsized and the tourists screamed for help when the fishermen and villagers at the shore brought them out, police added.
       
The thirteen were rushed to nearby hospitals where the four were declared dead while the condition of four others is critical, they added.
