Brushing aside criticism of his tenure, which saw the 26/11 attacks, KH Gafoor, who was on Saturday removed as Mumbai Police Commissioner, said his stint was
"very challenging" and maintained that he and the force had acted to their best ability during the terror strike.

"It (Commissioner job) was a very challenging job. I never worried about any criticism I faced. The job was such that anyone who is serving it will come across criticism. I
did my best and continue to offer my best service," Gafoor told PTI.

Gafoor has been posted as Managing Director of Police Housing Corporation in the rank of DGP. An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1974 batch, Gafoor took the charge of Mumbai Police Commissioner on March 1, 2008.

On Pradhan Committee report which reportedly indicted him for lapses in handling November 26 terror attacks, Gafoor said, "I don't want to comment on it as I don't know the contents of the report."

Gafoor said that the Mumbai terror attacks were of "high intensity and magnitude" and his police team from constable to senior police officials "did their best" during the attacks.

Gafoor also pointed out the shortage of staff in city police department. "13 to 14 million people reside in Mumbai. But the number of policemen is very less. From constable to senior police officers, everyone is working for about 12 to 14 hours in the city which witnesses developments everyday," he said. He had earlier been in the Traffic Department and won two international awards during his tenure as Deputy Police
Commissioner and Additional Commissioner.
